Prop Car Racing joins the TCR South America grid
Wednesday February 3, 2021 | The Prop Car Racing is one of the new teams that will be part of the 2021 grid of the TCR South America. Led by former driver Darcio dos Santos, the Brazilian team will compete with two Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR. The confirmed drivers are Fabio Casagrande from São Paulo and Argentine/American Roy Block.
Casagrande will compete in all the events of the season, while Block will participate in at least 3 events, as long as he does not have calendar conflicts with his activity at IMSA. The team will later define who will occupy the seat that Block leaves free at those events.
Fabio Casagrande has already competed for Prop Car Racing in Formula 3 events. In addition, the driver from São Paulo has an outstanding career in karting in Brazil, contesting various championships between 1997 and 2002. Roy Block has an outstanding career in international motorsports. This will be the fourth consecutive year that Block will compete alongside TMR Engineering at IMSA.
Block was the link between Prop Car Racing and TMR Engineering, from whom Darcio dos Santos acquired the two Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR.
Darcio dos Santos, Prop Car Racing team manager said: “The Alfa Romeo brand has been very popular with Brazilians since the days of Piero Gancia and Emilio Zambello, as well as Abílio and Alcides Diniz. The Prop Car Racing team has been in the F-3 since the beginning of the championships, mainly the South American ones, where we made great friends and had good battles on track throughout the region. It will be a great pleasure to see all these great friends at a formidable event as TCR South America promises to be. We are very motivated for the inaugural season.”
Fabio Casagrande remarked: “I am very happy to compete in the inaugural season of TCR South America for Prop Car Racing. It is a very traditional team that has always promoted my career in karts and cars. Being together with Darcio and all the team members in a regional category will be fantastic. I hope it will be a very good year for us.”
Roy Block said: “I am very excited and happy to participate in a project like TCR South America. It will be the first time that I will compete in the region. I am very happy to be part of the Prop Car Racing family and to work with Darcio dos Santos, who has a lot of history in motorsports in South America.”
Mauricio Slaviero, promoter of TCR South America in Brazil, explained: “The Prop Car Racing team has a long tradition on South American tracks, empowering important names in the history of Brazilian motorsports. I am very happy with the entry of Prop Car Racing for our inaugural season, especially as it marks the entry of another manufacturer, Alfa Romeo, into the championship.”
Ricardo Caballero, Sporting Director of TCR South America, said: “I am proud and satisfied with the entry of Prop Car Racing into the category. It is not just a new team, but also new drivers alongside a new brand, which will enliven the 2021 TCR South America championship. We wish him the best of success.”
The cars are expected to arrive in Brazil in the next few weeks. Prop Car Racing is one of the most traditional and historic motorsport teams in Brazil. It was founded by former pilot Darcio dos Santos, Rubens Barrichello’s uncle.
