Tuesday, April 29, 2021 | TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Argentina was designated by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing as responsible for the homologation and subsequent homologation, production and sales exclusively of Toyota vehicles for TCR tournaments around the world.
The chosen model for Toyota’s premiere at the TCR tournaments is the Corolla sedan. The technical and engineering works have already begun at the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Argentina headquarters. The technical approval process of the vehicle will be initially coordinated from there, which once finalized and approved by WSC (World Sporting Consulting) will be able to participate in the more than 30 regional TCR tournaments or even in the WTCR FIA World Cup.
The development of this product is within the policies of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing and continues to represent Toyota’s commitment to pushing the limits to create ever-better cars. On this occasion, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Argentina will be the protagonist of the TCR, becoming the exclusive manufacturer of the Corolla sedan version for the teams that choose this model to participate in the competition.
Over the six years since TCR was launched, 15 different brands of car manufacturers have built a total of nearly 1000 TCR-spec racing cars. The designation of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Argentina as responsible for the integral execution of this global project represents a new international recognition to the management of a team with more than 20 years of experience in local motorsports.
Daniel Herrero, President of Toyota Argentina and Chief Officer of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Latin America commented: “We are proud to have received authorization from our headquarters to be responsible for homologating, developing, manufacturing and sales of a Toyota´s competition vehicle for TCR tournaments. That shows, that Toyota Motor Corporation trust in us and our motorsports industry is relevant. For us, it is a double satisfaction, because from now our team will be responsible for the expected arrival of Toyota to the international TCR series and, on the other hand because this project will give us the possibility of promoting Argentina’s Motorsports industry to the world”.
WSC President Marcello Lotti said: “Six years have been passed since TCR was launched and new manufacturers are still joining! We now welcome the arrival of Toyota, a giant of global automotive that has always been deeply involved in motorsport activities. The appointment to Toyota GAZOO Racing Argentina for developing, building and marketing the Corolla TCR marks another important milestone in the success of the TCR concept.”
Federico Punteri, Director of TCR South America said: “We welcome TOYOTA GAZOO Racing to the TCR family. It is a pleasure to combine the TCR South America project with this new TOYOTA GAZOO Racing project for TCR. We look forward to seeing you on the tracks soon.”
