El TCR South America arrives mid-season

Buenos Aires (Argentina), July 20, 2022 – The second year of the TCR South America has reached the middle of the season that will have eight dates. After the three races in Brazil and the first in Uruguay, the championship is increasingly contested for the top places and new contenders appear in the fight for the drivers’ crown.

2022 began at the magnificent Velocitta circuit in Mogi Guaçu, São Paulo, and the winners were Raphael Reis, in his debut with CUPRA, and Fabricio Pezzini, who began the season showing his candidacy for the title. For the Trophy Cup, the winners were Antonio Junquiera, in his only participation in the category, and the defending champion Adalberto Baptista.

The next step was the international route of Interlagos with the first competition in Endrurance format. There, the duo of Pezzini and Javier Merlo, stepped strong and took 78 points, counting the first step of the podium and the units added in the classification. The podium that day was completed by the Brazilians Pedro Aizza and Rodrigo Sperafico and the Argentines Juan Ángel Rosso and Ricardo Rissatti. Enrique Maglione, together with Fernando Rama, were the first in the Trophy Cup.

The last of the stay of the TCR South America in Brazil was in Goiania. At the Autodromo Internacional Ayrton Senna the dominator was Alceu Feldmann with two wins in the two races of the weekend. On the Trophy side, Marcio Basso, in his debut at PMO Racing’s Lynk & Co, achieved the “1” in the first race and the local, Renato Braga, climbed to the first step of the podium in the second.

The first step through Uruguayan lands the category visited the difficult Rivera circuit with unfavorable weather conditions. Simulating Feldmann in Goiania, Rosso also left nothing for his rivals and won both races. Thinking about the championship, Pezzini and Reis added good points and thus remained at the top of the general classification. Edson Reis in his Hyundai Elantra won first in the Trophy Cup division and Fabio Casagrande in the Honda Civic took second to leave him at the top of the championship.

With these results, Pezzini leads the overall drivers with 286 points, followed by R. Reis with 256 and Rosso with 244. It must be remembered that on the seventh date, before starting the Villicum races, all the drivers will have to discard the points from the worst race of the year (it cannot be Endurance).
