The activity began in Buenos Aires with the shakedown dominated by Jorge Barrio

Buenos Aires (Argentina), September 16, 2022 – The 20 minute shakedown kicked off the penultimate races of the 2022 calendar of the TCR South America that could define several champions in the category, in front of the president of the WSC Group, Marcello Lotti, who will be present in Buenos Aires throughout the weekend.

In the drivers’ general standings, the Argentinian Fabricio Pezzini leads with 401 points over his compatriot Juan Ángel Rosso and the Brazilian Raphael Reis who have 329 and 317, respectively. It should be noted that at the end of this weekend the pilots will have to compulsorily rule out a race and it cannot be an endurance event or any competition that has not been presented. The total possible points for a driver during a date in a two-race format is 91 points.

On the other hand, in the team championship the difference is bigger. The PMO Motorsport with Lynk & Co. is the leader with 715 units, followed by the current champion the CUPRA W2 Pro GP with 533. The top 3 is completed by the Squadra Martino Honda with 494 points. To walk away with the crown, PMO Motorsport has to have a difference of at least 164 units.

Another definition that a winner could have is the Trophy Cup. The Brazilian Fabio Casagrande, after his victory with the Argentine Esteban Guerrieri in Termas de Rio Hondo, is at the top with 399 points. The Uruguayan Enrique Maglione is the second with 308 and third is the Brazilian Adalberto Baptista, who will not be present in Buenos Aires, with 279.

Going to the activity of the day, the shakedown was led by the brand new Toyota Corolla of Argentinean Jorge Barrio after marking 1:20.825. This are the pilots that completed the first ten: Rosso, Juan Manuel Casella, Santiago Urrutia, Franco Farina, Reis, Pezzini, Manuel Sapag, Pedro Aizza and Gabriel Lusquiños.

Tomorrow will be the most intense day for TCR South America. In the morning and at noon there will be the two training sessions and in the afternoon the qualy will take place. On Sunday from 9:30 a.m. Race 1 will start and from 12:20 a.m. Race 2 will have the inverted grid and moving start.

STATEMENT

“It’s nice to start a weekend on the right foot. The car was convincing but there are some little issues that leave me worried about the engine but we still had the best time”.
Jorge Barrio
