The FIA Motorsport Games had representatives from TCR South America in the Touring Car discipline
Marseille (France), November 2, 2022 – The TCR concept of motorsport offers the same tools in all parts of the world. With the same car and the same regulations, all drivers can compete at any latitude where a championship is held under the TCR modality. This was an undeniable reason for the Touring Car discipline of the FIA Motorsport Games to be run under these regulations.
With two years in the region, the TCR South America was a springboard for drivers who have raced in the category to try their luck in a new edition of the FIA Motorsport Games.
Raphael Reis and Gabriel Lusquiños, regulars at the TCR South America, and Ignacio Montenegro, who ran two races of the 2022 championship and was helped by the category to be part of this event, were the drivers who participated on behalf of the region.
Montenegro drove an ALM Team Honda Civic and finished in fourth position and was on the verge of a medal. The Argentine was improving from the first free practice until in the final race he fought for the first places.
For his part, Lusquiños, who participated under the Swiss flag for his dual nationality, finished the weekend in 12th place. Driving a CUPRA from the Volcano team, he had moments where he placed in the top ten and was fast on a track that he knew little about and where it is difficult to improve the pace given that it is a very technical track.
Reis’s participation was marked by different problems. In the qualy he was in 11th position and there he showed that he was improving as he adapted to the circuit. When leaving for the qualifying race, the representative of Brazil had problems with the clutch that prevented him from starting that competition. In the final he demonstrated his conditions. After starting from the last position he was in the top ten but a touch meant that with one lap to go one of the front tires got a puncture and he had to retire.
The next edition of the FIA Motorsport Games will be in 2024 in the city of Valencia (Spain).
