Termas de Rio Hondo, Santiago del Estero (Argentina), August 23, 2022 – The Endurance race in Termas de Rio Hondo (Santiago del Estero) opens the way for the TCR South America in Argentina to race the last three dates of the 2022 championship. With record entries and more models, the category will have the honor of having on its grid international South American drivers such as Esteban Guerrieri, Santiago Urrutia and Néstor Girolami, as well as the leader of the World Tourism Cup (WTCR), the Spanish Mikel Azcona who will accompany the Brazilian ascendant Pedro Aizza. Another regional star that will join is the Brazilian Thiago Camilo who will make his debut together with the Argentine Jorge Barrio in the brand new Toyota Corolla.
The framework for the sixth stage of the championship will be completed with the world debut of the Toyota Corolla TCR concept that was manufactured in Argentina for the whole world. A model that began as a project a little over a year ago and will take shape on the track and in competition with the first activity on Thursday at Termas de Rio Hondo. In addition, there will also be the return of a Hyundai i30, this time by the Chilean duo Javier and Martín Scuncio.
Being in Endurance format, the weekend will feature a single race where both drivers must drive a certain number of laps to comply with the regulations. The activity will begin on Thursday with a shakedown and will continue on Friday and Saturday with free practice and qualifying. Sunday will be reserved for the competition that will last 33 laps or 1 hour.
With the results obtained in the Uruguayan dates, the drivers’ championship became more fought in the first positions. Without the discards that must be made before starting the last competition to be held in Villicum (San Juan), the Argentine Fabricio Pezzini leads with 337 points followed by the Brazilian Raphael Reis with 310 and the Argentine Juan Ángel Rosso. The top 5 is completed by the Argentine Manuel Sapag with 278 and Pedro Aizza with 209.
The confirmation of the international stars and the arrival of new teams will mean that there will be five different nationalities within the grid. To the already usual Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina, in Termas de Rio Hondo there will be registered from Chile and Spain.
The TCR South America begins the final stage of its 2022 championship in Argentina and the Autodromo Internacional de Termas de Rio Hondo will receive this weekend the most important motorsport event in the region.
