Victories for Reis and Pezzini in the debut of the TCR South America
Mogi Guaçu (Brazil), April 3, 2022 – With two exciting races, the second season of the TCR South America began at Velocitta. The first race of the day had the total dominance of poleman Raphael Reis.
Leading from the start, the Cupra of the W2 Pro GP team took the first place of the podium and the fastest lap of the race.
Fabricio Pezzini with Lynk & Co and Juan Angel Rosso with Honda Civic completed the top 3. In fourth place was Antonio Junqueira who was also crowned winner of the Trophy Cup.
The second race, marked by a long intervention of the safety car and several problems, had a podium with serious candidates for the title.
Fabricio Pezzini, Manuel Sapag and Raphael Reis were the first three in the race, after Pablo Otero was charged for overtaking cars when the pace car was on the track.
The Trophy Cup was won by Adalberto Baptista who finished sixth overall after avoiding all the difficulties of the test. With these results, the drivers’ championship table left Reis in first place with 86 points, followed by Pezzini with 79 and Sapag with 58.
The next race of the TCR South America will be at the mythical Interlagos circuit (Brazil), on April 30 and May 1.
“The W2 ProGP really gave me an excellent car. The decisive moment of the race was the start where I was able to make a difference. Then, with the safety car coming out, I had to control the game again but our Cupra was well balanced and with a good pace. In the end I just had to take care of the tires to finish in first position”.
“It was an unforgettable weekend, my first time racing outside of Argentina. The second race of the day was insane, starting with the start and continuing with the safety car interventions. Then there were a few green-flag laps and I was able to make progress in the key moments. I dedicate this victory to all my family, my team and all argentines”.
“It was a good result in the first race. The initial objective was to finish in a good position and it was achieved. The idea was to run cool and smart. At the beginning I had some difficulties to take the car, but I was able to maintain the position and finish the day on the podium”.
Juan Ángel Rosso
“Very happy with how the weekend ended at Velocitta. In the first race I struggled a bit with the car because I didn’t know his performance in race, but in the second I adapted and was able to finish in a very good position. I thank the PMO Motorsport team for the great car they gave me”.
“Race 1 was a lesson because I was warned that the car would lose performance in the final part of the race. After taking care of him in the first laps I was able to go faster in the second part and keep in a good position that gave me the victory in the Trophy Cup”.
